EDEX 3, EAMS and SpeedComp 3.0

The Division of Workers' Compensation has launched its new Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS and implemented regulatory changes that have altered how everyone does business within the WCAB).

As a result, DWC made changes to its EDEX System design (EDEX 3) and required corresponding changes to be made to EDEX software at the user level. Existing SpeedComp subscribers may upgrade, at no charge, to SpeedComp 3.0 EDEX application software which is compatible with DWC's new technology and regulations. The following will briefly describe how EAMS will impact EDEX users.

What Will Continue
All basic EDEX Functions including:
Inquiry by SSN
Inquiry by WCAB Case Number
Initial Inquiry by WCAB Case Number
Resident Inquiry (now called Case Watch )
Pre-Application Inquiry (now called SSN Watch)

Case updates will continue to be automatically provided through SpeedComp if you have a Resident Inquiry or Extended Lien on file for that case.

What Has been Eliminated
Electronic lien filing via EDEX was eliminated by DWC on August 8, 2008.

What Has been Added
Inquiry by EAMS applicant reference number.
Inquiry by EAMS "ADJ" case number.

What Has been Changed
Going forward, DWC will identify each EDEX subscriber as either a government agency or a private entity. All EDEX subscribers may search the system using Social Security numbers, but the information returned to private entities from EDEX will contain only the last four digits of the Social Security number, along with ZIP Code and date of birth. The injured worker’s residence address will not be provided to private entity subscribers.

Because of changes to the WCAB case data going forward in EAMS, there will be some changes to the data returned in EDEX. These will include a new WCAB case numbering system along with a new applicant (EAMS) reference number.

Also, EAMS does not differentiate some case details to the extent that DWC’s current system does. As a result, certain categories of information in EDEX, such as case status and significant event types will be scaled back to match EAMS. Other minor changes will occur but are not expected to significantly impact EDEX users. SpeedComp 3.0 will accommodate all of the changes required by EAMS.

DWC'S EDEX processing schedule will change. The new schedule has not yet been determined.

New SpeedComp Software 3.0 for EDEX 3
Compatible with all changes required for EAMS and new DWC and WCAB regulations.
Available at no charge in to existing SpeedComp customers.

Prior EDEX Liens
All liens filed by EDEX through August 8 were carried over by the DWC into EAMS.

New Forms
DWC regulations require the use of newly designed forms which are Optical Character Recognition (OCR) compatible. SpeedComp 3.0 includes DWC-approved forms in its EDEX 3 version. These forms are configured to auto-populate with SpeedComp EDEX data.
